7th July 1925 - 22nd November 2018

Written by John Tierney and the Hodgson family

It was with great sadness that we learned of Richard’s passing before Christmas. Richard was born in Kent in 1925. As a young man he worked in various jobs, finally settling with Unilever for several years, before moving to Oughterard in the 70s. He was a great lover of nature and wildlife.
He moved about in Oughterard for a while before making Magheramore his home, where he built a house and took to tending his own vegetable garden, the produce of which he often entered into the Oughterard Show. He was close with the Hodgson family, of Currarevagh House in Glann, and was the godfather to Jennifer Hodgson. In later life, due to poor health, he moved to France to avail of the warmer climate. He is survived by his daughter, Brigid, who resides in Dublin.
