Farewell to Frank Walsh of Raha
I firstly wish on behalf of our family to thank every person who has supported us in the past week.
Sincere gratitude also to Fr. Martin for his kindness and help, to Dermot and Therese for their professionalism and care, Sandra and Mike for the beautiful music and also to the staff of UHG and Moycullen Nursing home for their care of Frank. And sincere thanks to all his wonderful neighbour’s and friends who had a candle lit guard of honor for Frank on his final journey leaving Raha.
Today we celebrated Frank’s life.
In the in the past few days so many people have spoken of their memories of him. Every person has said the same thing that Frank was a gentleman. And this was certainly true. He was a gentle and humble man, and he lived a simple life. He liked nothing more than to meet and chat with people, whether this was in Oughterard while shopping, or outside his gate where he often stood smoking his pipe back in the day. He loved a family gathering and many’s the party we had in his home in Raha where he’d be smiling and chatting for the night and telling many stories of his holiday in America long ago which he loved and never forgot a single detail. Had an amazing memory for birthdays and there are a lot of birthdays in our family.
His familiar figure cycling is missed for some years now due to his deterioration in health, and he has fought many illnesses in the past few years showing amazing strength. Unfortunately, this time he was not able, and he slipped away peacefully with no fuss. During his illness his beloved family members were by his side to keep him company as he left us to reunite with his beloved parents, siblings, and friends. In his memory we may keep the family gatherings going and somebody has an awful lot of birthdays to memorize.
To close with this very apt line……..
Blessed are the gentle for they shall inherit the earth.
Thank you
