Sheila O’Sullivan, who died recently, gave long and outstanding service to the people of Oughterard.

With her husband Dinny, she ran the Post Office for nearly 50 years. I had the privilege to do the Relief Post in the 1970s and I found her to be a kind, understanding and gentle lady.

She was also an outstanding quiz competitor and was on the Oughterard team that won two Muintir na Tire All-Ireland’s in the late 1960s.

She was on my own team that took part in the Table Quizzes locally for several years and was blessed with a wonderful memory.

Sheila served as Lady Mayor of Oughterard for several years. She will be fondly remembered .

May she rest in peace.
