  • MY DAD, PADDY GIBNEY, WAS BORN AND SPENT HIS YOUTH IN OUGHTERARD. FAMILY LIVED ON MAIN STREET. HOME STILL REMAINS AND STILL FAMILY OWNED. NICE TO SEE PICTURES CONNECTED WITH THE PAST. THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.

  • The photos are lovely. It would be nice to have a brief comment on each. As a tourist I loved Oughterard but would like an idea roughly when the photos were taken, what the occasion was, and who is in them, as appropriate.

  • Looking at the photos of the car outside the Corrib and Anglers reminded me of Fergus, the town’s (only?) taxi driver, who used to sit outside the library opposite the Anglers. Also, memories of the Corrib’s cocktail bar, the Colonel, Christy their head waiter and, at the other end of town, Jim Egan bundling a sheep into his car outside his hotel (where we had our reception after marrying at Glann Church in ’79). The photo on page 15 of the new Newsletter has Jim’s hotel in the distance with its pitched, not flat roof! Say no more.

  • well done David, when you put the two together it gives us young ones a clearer picture of where the photo is taken.
