The GAA were not to be intimidated by the actions of the British forces the previous Sunday and Galway accepted Dublin’s invitation to play a game at headquarters to defy curfew and martial law.
Dara and James Lowry of Scoil Chuimin agus Caitríona are the great grandsons of Tom Cogavin who played on the first Galway team to win the All Ireland for Galway.

My father in photograph was Michael Finn D O B 1897 Bridgepark Kylebrack Loughrea Joined Garda Siochana in 1924 Served 30 years in Dublin including Kevin Street and Fitzgibbon Street stations. I joined Gardai 1962 and served in Fittgibbon St and Store Street .we have two grandsons Michael and John Finn both playing hurling and football in Dublin
My names Michael Finn, and that’s my great grandad Mick Finn. I play hurling for Craobh Ciaran and hurlings been in my family for generations. I’m proud to know my great grandad played for Galway.
