Josephine Bird was born Isabella Josephine Boyne on the 15th October 1871 in Belfast, to Peter & Jane (Hezley) Boyne. Peter was a solider, so perhaps this is how Josephine got to India.
On the 6th September 1886, Josephine married Henry Langford Bird (1859-1892). Their daughter Gertrude Mary Josephina Bird was born in Rawal Pindee, Bengal, India, sadly Josephine was widowed in 1892.
Josephine commenced her Nursing Training in Jervis Street Hospital from November 1892 to December 1898, she continued to complete her Midwifery Training at the Coombe lying in Hospital from 2nd December 1898 to March 1899
