County Finals 2004

It was a good testament to the work put in by all the coaches in the Club that Corrib competed in four underage county finals in 2004.

Under 14 Girls

Corrib under14 team faced a very strong Maree/Oranmore side in the final. The girls put up a great show and threatened to take the game a number of times in the second half.

Indeed it was the first half that proved to be the more difficult for Corrib. After the second quarter Corrib were 20 points in arrears and it was a most difficult gap to make up. However, they held on strongly in the second half and showed great character and held the score level for much of the second half. Oranmore/ Maree ran out winners in the end by 53 points to 33points.

Team: Sinéad Burke 10 points, Maebh Malone (9), Tena Thornton(6), Maeve Clancy(6), Ciara Naughton(2).

Under15 Girl’s Final

Corrib under 15 girls reached the county final to face a strongly fancied Maree/  Oranmore side. Corrib tried their best but in the end the Maree girls were just that bit more alert and quicker to the ball. Corrib never gave up and it was a good practice match for their school’s games.

Scores: Sinéad Burke(4), Maeve Clancy(3), Maebh Malone(2), Deniese Mc Quinn (1).

Team: J. Faherty, M Chaney, S. Collins, S. Morley, Vanessa Butler, Maeve Clancy, Tena Thornton, Laura Lambert, C. Naughton, M. Gibney, Maeve Malone, S. Walsh, Deneise Mc Quinn, L. Walsh, C. Thornton and S. Burke.

Under 11 Boys

Corrib under 11 boys continued their unbeaten run up to the county final. They beat Claregalway (2003 County Champions) in Oughterard by 25 points to 15 and went on to win against Oranmore/ Martee by 26 points to 6.

They played the final in NUIG Sports Hall against Claregalway. It was a very close game but in the end the ball would not just go into the basket for Corrib. Corrib had beaten Claregalway earlier in the year and were hopeful of winning the final. The game was very intense and the marking was very tight. After the first quarter the score was 0-0. after the second quarter the score was 4-1 with the game there for the taking and in the end it came down to only one basket. The result was more like a soccer score!

The boys played with great passion and determination. The team had great fun and enjoyed the after match party in McDonalds!

Scores: Patrick Walsh(2), Eanna Malone(1)

Team: Jefferey Lee, Eanna Malone, Patrick Walsh (Captain), Justin MC Geough, Luke Ryan, Stephen Tierney, Evan Costello, Enda Tierney, Christopher Forde, Peter O Connor, Cian Harte and Ciaran Mc Donald.

Under 12 Boys

Corrib met Maree in the final. The boys were leading Maree at half time by 9 points to 7 in the final. In the end they lost narrowly 18 p0ints to 15. The boys showed great heart and never gave up. It was a very tense game with baskets being matched at both ends.
