There a great range of events taking place here in Oughterard for Heritage Week
Oughterard Heritage Group are holding an exhibition to celebrate the Centenary of An Garda Siochana in the Oughterard Courthouse which started yesterday and will continue until Sunday 27th August (Oughterard Show Day) from 12 noon to 5pm with the exception of Thursday 17th
We ran this exhibition last November over 2 weekends and it was a huge success and people asked for it to be run again and since then we have added some new exhibits
It’s a varied exhibition with banners about the history of An Garda Siochana which was put together Superintendent Damien Flanagan, Heritage Officer Marie Mannion and their team last year. I have gathered stories and memories from Garda stationed here in Oughterard and Gardai born here and stationed in other parts of the country. The group is thankful to a member of An Garda Siochana for loaning his wonderful collection of old uniforms, memorabilia.
Talk on the Restoration of Church Windows by Geraldine McManus Conservation architect on Thursday 17th at 8pm in the Kilcummin Church of Ireland
Corrib Beo are holding a double bill in Kilcummin Church of Ireland on Friday 18th at 7.15pm
Dr. Cillian Roden is giving a talk about “Does Tony Whilds’s Vision of the Corrib still matter?” followed by a book launch of Our Corrib Walks by Patrick McGinley
Another wonderful Corrib Beo event is Hands across the Corrib
A meeting of all the Corrib communities hosted at Knockferry and Kilbeg piers, with Music, talks, exhibitors on Water Quality & Environment, Crafts, boat crossings – bringing our Corrib communities together for a social event. on Sunday 20th at 2pm until 5pm

Aughnanure Castle is holding a Medieval Irish Harp Recital with Natalie Surina from 12 noon to 2 pm followed by a Flax Spinning Demonstration from 2pm to 5pm

It’s an exhibition celebrating the unsung contributions to life and society, Oughterard Heritage is celebrating the late Peig Tierney Brown a pioneering Garda, Peig features in the Oughterard Heritage Garda Exhibition.
