My name is Stephanie Naughton and my father Michael Naughton is a native of Rusheeney, Oughterard. For years now my family and I enjoyed reading your newsletter and seeing the names and faces of our friends and family from Oughterard. So, this I thought I would send you a picture and some details about our family golf tournament in the hops that you might put it into one of your upcoming newsletters.

Family Golf Tournament has Rusheeney Roots

On Saturday, May 186th 1998 the 2nd Annual Naughton Family Golf Tournament was held at Lost Brook Golf Course in Canton Massachusetts USA. The competition of 36  players included Rusheeney natives Peggy, Bridgie, Mary, Michael & Murt Naughton along with family and friends. After eighteen holds the team of Murt Naughton (Rusheeney, Oughterard), Peggy nee Naughton Hefling (Rusheeney, Oughterard), Mary Craig (County Donegal) and Steve Bilafer (Dedham, MA) emerged victorious. The was the 2nd tournament win for Murt Naughton, who’s team of Mary nee Naughton McKeeney (Rusheeney, Oughterard), Tara Naughton (Randolph MA.) and Steve Bilafer (Dedham, MA) took home the coveted trophy last year.

This is an annual tournament, organised by Stephanie Naughton, who hopes that next year’s event will be highlighted by the additional participation of family members from across the pond.
