Damian Faherty

Hugh Faherty was a member of the Faherty family, his grandfather Thomas was born in Oughterard and worked with the railways, settling in Kilkeel, Co. Down. His son Hugh was born in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, grew up in Kilkeel, Co. Down and settled in Belfast, Co. Antrim.
Hugh was teaching in St Edwards College in Liverpool in 1939. He would have been 36. He left for a summer trip to America to see the 1939 World’s Fair in New York then on to visit his uncles Michael & John (from Oughterard) in Calgary Alberta. On his return home he wrote this article about his visit for the school magazine. It is a great descriptive piece of the coming of the telephone and TV and the wonders of The New World at that time.
The article starts on the second page of the pdf attached.
