“There once lived a man who had a son called Thomas. One evening his son got very sick and the father had to spend the night up minding him. Next day was market day there and he came up to sell his stock. He sold them and got ready for home. When he was within a mile and half of his home he lost his way. The donkey and cart went home and the man went the opposite direction. He wandered away until he reached Magherabeg and walked back through a river until he reached a bog. Soon he went into a bog-hole and afterwards he came to himself and he started screaming for help. The village people heard him and came to his rescue. He was brought home to a neighbour’s house and afterwards the people turned his waistcoat inside out and he went home safely then.”
