Heritage is everywhere and all around us in old buildings and graveyards, streets and country lanes, rivers and coastlines, hedgerows and gardens, stories and songs.
Galway County Council want to celebrate the rich heritage of County Galway and help connect people with their heritage and each other during this challenging time.
Heritage provides us with a sense of place and identity. It connects us with our roots and our community. In difficult times it may help to remind us this crisis will past. Nature can be a source of joy and comfort in difficult times.
People are invited to send in a photograph, drawing, poem or story to highlight the inspiring heritage of County Galway. It might be a spring flower in your garden, a local ring fort, an old water pump on your street, a clip of a traditional song or story that means something special to you.
As many as possible of the submissions will be uploaded to https://galwaycommunityheritage.org/ to help us stay connected with our heritage and as a community.
If you want to research your local built heritage while staying as home check out https://www.heritagecouncil.ie/content/files/Adopt-a-Monument-Research-Toolkit.pdf.
