Doon Evictions - Parish of Killannin

Jim Fahy

This holding was the property of Robert Walcott MacGillivray Martin who was the second son of Major Richard James Martin of Ross and Doon Lodge. Eldest son – Richard James – was born in November 1848 and died in September 1850.
He was born in Clareville, Oughterard in August 1852 where his father had a lease from Thomas Martin of Ballynahinch.  His mother was English: Dorothea Browne Clogstoun. He married in 1884 a Miss Agnes Jeffreys from Dunmore, Co. Galway.
According to “Google” he served in the Zulu war in the 1870’s as a junior officer. He had five in family – three sons and two daughters. Apparently two of his sons were killed in WW1 and the third died in the course of an operation in Gibraltar in 1920.
