Dublin Evening Packet dated August 27th 1836 records a letter of appreciation to Chief Constable A.F. Royse of Oughterard by Mr A. O’Flaherty of Knockbane, Moycullen, on behalf of the various influential people in the barony of Moycullen at that time. The Thomas Ryan recorded was Parish Priest of Killannin and John Acton was curate in Oughterard in 1836 and 1837. It is believed that he is the same person as “John Michael Acton” who was Parish Priest in Ballinderreen/Drumacoo, Kilcolgan in earlier years.
