Mary Conneely

1864

By Mark Connolly

This is a photo of my great grandmother Mary Conneely of Rusheeny who married Patrick O’Connor and moved to West Leam.  There is a date on the photo 1864.  I still have the shawl that is shown in the photo.

  • My Grandmother’s hands and face look just like the lady in the photo and her name was also Mary Conneely. She was born in 1905. She was definitely from Oughterard, I think she had a brother Sean and niece (perhaps) called Teresa. There was a petrol station/funeral business on the high street. She married John Thompson born in 1894 and they had one child, Joan, my mother. They lived outside Dublin until 1986
I’m going to visit Oughterard this year and hope to find out more…thank you for any suggestions on where to find out more. Adele

  • Its so good to see photos of people’s ancestors. I have a Mary Connelly marry a John Welsh/Walsh abt 1810? They had a son John Welsh/Walsh I believe he was born in the Oughterard/Galway area in Ireland. I’m yet to clarify that when I find a birth/baptism certificate.
I wonder if Mary is related to your Mary.

  • Hi Willie. I was just in Rusheeney last month. I am related to John/Joe, Patrick and Michael Conneely, Helen Malarkey. You can email me if anything rings a bell.

  • My family is Conneeley from Rusheeney which is not far from Leam. My grandparents were Joe and Maria Conneeley and my parents were Tom and Mary. Are we perhaps related? Do you have more details on Mary as far as siblings and where they lived?
