I am looking for some family who I believe came from this area, In particular those who are relatives of a man who drowned while fishing in 1973, this man’s date of birth would have been 27/01/1952, his wife was from a large family of 12 her date of birth is 5/11/1949.

Assuming that you have not identified the family in question by now, the Oughterard Registration area covers from Clonbur to Spiddal, via Rosmuck and Carraroe
In the years 1940 to 1953 there are a number of “Hickey” births registered in the Oughterard Registration area whose mother’s are recorded as “Connolly”, “Conneely”, “Stanton” and “Joyce”.
If you are residing in the Republic of Ireand you can access those records which are available in your local Civil Registration Office at the cost of four euro, if for genealogical purposes.
